It’s been a difficult week for Drake, who is currently in the heart of a heated debate over Kendrick Lamar’s “Like That” rap. While fans wait for the rapper to respond to the Compton emcee’s insults on a record, the Toronto native has been active on social media.
On Saturday night (March 30), the “God’s Plan” musician posted a snapshot of Joe Budden to his Instagram Story with the remark, “What’s the vibes, NY?” Although there appeared to be nothing wrong with the message, many fans interpreted it as Drake mocking the podcaster’s recent remarks.
Budden said on Thursday’s (March 28) episode of “The Joe Budden Podcast” that Drake lacks the ability to respond to Lamar. He specifically mentioned “Rich Baby Daddy” from For All The Dogs as an example of where the Toronto native stands musically. “I believe we will hear some subs or barbs about features. Drake is on tour, while Cole is focused on his album. “I think Cole is pretty respectable,” Budden said. “I don’t believe Drake will rap at the level he was rapping at while responding to trаsh albums… “Shake that a** for Drake, and shake that a** for me.” It’s not the time for it right now.”
He went on, “Do you think he just enjoys being around Sexyy Red so much? I could mention several more folks. This is what I don’t get about you Drake stans. My original beef — music beef — was, ‘D**n, the people are a fan of the lyricism, and introspective s**t, and everything the s**t he did growing up, we were no longer receiving that.’ That’s been my continuous beef.”
Budden and Drake’s disagreements appear to originate from the former’s statement that For All The Dogs saw the artist “rapping for the children.”
