”Hiss” by Megan Thee Stallion, a rapper from Houston, is the most popular song in the US. This is her first number one single as a solo artist. After its release on January 26, “Hiss” set in motion a series of incredibly bizarre events. “These hoes don’t be mаd at Megan, these hoes mаd at Megan’s Law” was generally seen as a reference to Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty, a registered sеx offender, and sparked an online rap wаr between Megan and Minaj. “Big Foot” was Minaj’s answer, a diss tune that made obvious allusions to Megan’s late mother and Tory Lanez’s 2020 shooting.
Despite Megan’s reluctance to openly confront Minaj, the controversy sparked days of online discourse, including from Minaj herself. During the same time, Megan made an appearance on Good Morning America to announce a summer tour and officially signed a deal with Warner Music Group and Roc Nation, which will let her keep her independence while tapping into label services.
Luminate reports that “Hiss” has 29 million streams, 104,000 downloads, and approximately 3 million impressions from radio exposure, propelling it to No. 1. Furthermore, the single debuted atop the Billboard Global 200 chart. By virtue of the launch, she breaks the glass ceiling as the first leading female rapper.
As a result of its enduring radio popularity (75.9 million impressions), “Lovin on Me,” formerly the number one song by Jack Harlow, has fallen to number two. At number three, we have “Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift, and at number four, we have “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims. The bottom half of the top ten singles continues with “Greedy” by Tate McRae at No. 5, “I Remember Everything” by Zach Bryan featuring Kacey Musgraves at No. 6, and “Agora Hills” by Doja Cat at No. 7.
With 19 million streams and an astounding 800,000,000,000,000 radio audience impressions, Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” debuts at No. 8 this week, breаking into the Top 10. Since signing with Warner Records in October 2021, Boone has had multiple singles (“Ghоst Town” and “In the Stars”) that have peaked at number one on the Billboard Hоt 100. “Beautiful Things” had the most viewers, though; it entered the chart at No. 15 in its first week of January and has since surpassed all others.
With its parent album, “American Dream,” at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 this week, 21 Sаvаge’s “Redrum” rounds out the top ten at No. 9. The 66th Grammy winner for best R&B song, “Snooze” by SZA, is now at number ten.
With 66,000 equivalent album units, Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” continues to lead the albums chart for the 18th nonconsecutive week. Never in its 48 weeks on the chart has the album slid lower than number six. 3rd place goes to Drake’s “For All the Dogs,” 4th place to Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season,” and 5th place goes to Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)”. Zach Bryan’s self-titled album is at No. 8, while SZA’s “SOS” is at No. 6.
“Midnights” by Swift, winner of the album of the year, is at No. 9, and “Dangerous: The Double Album” by Wallen, at No. 10, round out the Top 10.
