In hip-hop, wоme𝚗 are trailblazers. More and more female rappers, like Ice Spice and Sexyy Red, are reaching the top of the charts and selling out venues. Things have definitely improved for musicians like Flo Milli, whose “Never Lose Me” appeared on the Hоt 100 a few months ago.
The native of Alabama was asked if things have gotten better for wоme𝚗 in the genre during an interview that was published today (May 1) with ELLE. “Certainly,” she said. In my opinion, it’s a venue where our voices can be heard and seen. I feel like we’re more accepted today, even though we were seen and heard before, thanks to icons. Although there are some who hold negаtive opinions about us, the majority of our critics are wоme𝚗.
In an earlier part of the discussion, Milli discussed her career and the difficulties she encountered at the outset. The artist had high hopes of being a rap sensation by the time she reached eighteen, but 2019 saw her remix of “Beef” by Ethereal and Playboi Carti become her breakthrough single.
I didn’t feel like I was there quite yet, even though my songs would have a lot of views when I posted them. Milli recalled a moment when she thought, “Maybe I should become a dental assistant.” She recalled perusing her Instagram and having that thought. I was going to drop everything and head to school for that when a friend of mine encouraged me to keep going. My song “Beef FloMix” began to go viral a few months down the road. Everything came together even if my planning was a bit wrong.
Milli has released a number of successful singles since her breakthrough, which have contributed to the development of her career. Here are a few examples: “In The Party,” “May I,” and “Conceited.”
