In an Instagram post from Saturday, May 11, the Native Tongues and A Tribe Called Quest legend thanked the college and yelled out his fellow recipients.

The reason behind Tip’s recognition was his “forward-thinking artistic vision,” which combines rap, jazz, and other genres with lyrics that address social issues. Berklee also mentioned his achievements as a producer, actor, educator, and cultural ambassador.
The 54-year-old delivered some wise words to the graduating class while speaking to over a thоusand people at the commencement event.
“To choose this path [of the artist] is a courageous choice indeed. You are handed the task to be courageous in your personal lives, to find balance between intellect and instinct… to not let bad choices define you, but to refine you,” he said.
