There are so many songs in Lil Wayne’s extensive discography (which spans more than three decades) that his concerts will inevitably leave out a few timeless favorites. But in a newly-surfaced concert film, he explains why he won’t be performing “Mona Lisa” (with Kendrick Lamar) from Tha Carter V, one of his biggest singles from the late 2010s. Given Weezy’s connection to Drizzy through Young Money, many may think this is related to the K.Dot and Drake spat that peaked this year. His real justification for this omission appears considerably more rational and truthful, but he does have cause to obfuscate if this is indeed the case.
“People in the front, listen, listen,” Lil Wayne started to sаy before Kendrick Lamar’s “Mona Lisa” performance. This has happened twice in the last three episodes. A placard reading “Mona Lisa” was held by someone. If you mentioned you were actual Lil Wayne, I don’t know if it means you or not.Do you realize that I am completely ignorant of the words to my own song, if you are true fans of Lil Wayne?” It was a question that Lil Wayne posed to the audience. “My, my, that song is so difficult, you know?” Do you understand? Rapping the words is something I’m not really fond of, but I’m determined to master it. I intend to master it. The lesson will be mine to absorb. I understand. For her and all those who adore the “Mona Lisa,” this is it. But this isn’t the “Mona Lisa;” it’s just for you. “Alright, let’s go,” he said, adding another song to the playlist.
“That moment in the studio with Wayne, I never told Wayne this,” Kendrick Lamar had spoken about Lil Wayne a few years back. I rethought the importance of work ethic after that. These are not some ‘fly by night’ verses. These are laid out and planned out in front of your very eyes. Plus, he’s thrilled about it, has a deep appreciation for music, and enjoys his work. We carried that same level of dedication and focus into our future endeavors, and it opened my eyes to a whole new level of appreciation.
