Jay-Z faces criticism for allegedly causing more harm than good with the $300M Philadelphia Scholarship Fund

The $300 million scholarship fund that JAY-Z established in Philadelphia has not gone down well.

Students in the city will get scholarships to private schools for grades K-12 through the PASS (Pennsylvania Award for Student Success) program, thanks to the large sum that Hov’s Roc Nation organization disclosed last week.

Public and political figures alike have voiced their disapproval of the charitable endeavor, claiming that it will lead to the privatization of public schools.

“Let me clarify for those who aren’t in Pennsylvania: the bill that Jay-Z is endorsing here is an attempt to unԀermine public education, spearheaded by Jeffrey Yass, a future cabinet member of Trump’s,” tweeted one reviewer.

“Whether Jay-Z or the upper middle-class family on the block: you are making a moral and political choice if you have resources and don’t allocate them to local public schools,” another critic said, slamming the plan. The most vulnerable people are the ones who lose out when public schools are privatized.

It has been our objective to invest in the long-term prosperity of the city’s changemakers,” Roc Nation Managing Director of Philanthropy Dania Diaz stated before the harsh reception: “We have enjoyed such a great relationship with Philadelphians.”

“Awareness and involvement from students is where change begins,” she went on to sаy. “Our goal is to provide families and children with the information they need to realize their academic potential, speak out for what they believe in, and ultimately take charge of shaping the world.”

Among JAY-philanthropy Z’s recent endeavors is a $20 million fund he established last year to benefit university students.Funds were gathered by the rapper’s Shawn Carter Foundation to assist low-income college students in continuing their studies.

The foundation will be able to expand their international exchange program, scholarships, community goodwill, and emerge𝚗cy aid initiatives thanks to the several contributions, the largest of which being $10 million from Amazon chairman Jeff Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez.

As part of his yearly commitment, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey also gave $2 million to the organization.

Scholarships, tours of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), study abroad programs, programs to help families build wealth, and other services have been provided to underprivileged youth and families from disenfranchised communities through the Shawn Carter Foundation, which was co-founded in 2003 by JAY-Z and Gloria Carter.
